A & B C Miscellaneous Trade Cards Winston Churchill 1965 Winston Churchill 1965 L55 - Millions watched on television the funeral procession of Britain’s great wartime leader Winston Churchill who died in January 1965 and almost immediately after A & BC produced this set of cards commemorating his life from his schooldays as ‘a troublesome boy’, via his Boer War exploits, chequered political career in and out of office, his family life with darling “Clemmie” and children, the war and the twilight years right up to his 86th birthday party. Using black and white photographs from the Mirror and Radio Times Hulton Picture Library and backed by texts describing the main events, this series uniquely captures almost a century of history in which one man played a leading role to earn a place among the nation’s heroes. It should be noted that some cards have variations in the width of the margins due to the way they were cut by the printers, but this in no way detracts from the content. The cards are size 82 x 55mm.

A & B C Aviation & Space Man on the Moon (18 different cards from the set of 19 text back section minus Solar Experiment) 1970 Man on the Moon (18 different cards from the set of 19 text back section minus Solar Experiment) 1970 L18 out of 19 - The world was gripped with space fever when this part set of 18 out of 19 cards (missing ‘Solar Experiment’) was issued in 1970. Man had walked on the moon for the first time in July 1969 and A & BC Gum were quick to cash in on public interest by producing these cards which contain NASA photo from the successful Apollo 11 mission. So we see the rocket launch, the surface of the moon, the American flag which we are told was spring loaded to unfurl in the vacuum of space, the astronauts responsible for the first space-walk Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin, and pictures of them on the moon etc. The backs contain a cartoon drawing of men on the moon and a small box containing space facts. This is a fascinating look at a hugely significant occasion. Cards size 89 x 64mm

A & B C Pop Stars & Singers The Monkees Black and White (54 different cards from the set of 55 minus No. 16) 1967 The Monkees Black and White (54 different cards from the set of 55 minus No. 16) 1967 L54 out of 55 - This part set (missing No. 16) contains black and white photos of the popular 1960s band. Their success with such hits as “Daydream Believer”, “Last Trains to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer” is ironic as they began as actors in a TV series about an imaginary band who wanted to be as popular as the Beatles but never succeeded. The show aired between 1966 and 1968 and although initially they were kept too busy to visit the recording studio they did begin putting out records particularly after the show was cancelled. They cards picture American trio Michael Nesmith, Micky Dolenz and Peter Tork together with British actor/singer Davy Jones in a variety of poses, often clowning around, and some have facsimile autographs on the front. The backs make up into a colour picture of the band. Cards size 81 x 56
