Amalgamated Tobacco Stamps, Coins & Banknotes Coins of the World 1960 Coins of the World 1960 25 - Looking at this set makes you realise how many currencies have changed over the years especially as many in this set date from the 1920s and ‘30s rather than the 1960s when this was issue. The Euro has now seen the end of the likes of the Franc, Mark and Escudos and our own currency also changed with the advent of decimalization so these are a nice historical record. What we like about this set is that as well as the depiction of a relevant coin the card also pictures a typical scene, such as the Great Wall of China alongside their 1927 1 dollar piece or the Statue of Liberty alongside a 1 dime coin. Interestingly as well as major countries the set also includes a Jersey coin which is pictured alongside Corbière lighthouse. This series was also produced by Amaran Tea in 1965 and C.E.D.E Ltd in 1956. An interesting set with cards size 67 x 36mm.

This set was issued in Mauritius with the company’s “Mills Filtertips” brand and has blue text on the reverse. It was also issued by Glengettie Tea with either a blue or black text back in 1961. Amalgamated Tobacco Stamps, Coins & Banknotes British Coins and Costumes 1958 British Coins and Costumes 1958 25 - This is an interesting set which details the history of British money from the ring money of the ancient Celts to the George II shilling, but as well as picturing the coins we also see an example of the type of dress worn in the period. So for instance we see a Roman coin of Augustus and a citizen in his toga or an Edward IV angel coin accompanied by a man in a suit of armour. Among the interesting coins is a William and Mary shilling which pictures both heads on the coin and a Cromwell sixpence which is extremely rare. The numbered backs give a brief write up about the coin and contain an advert for “Mills Filtertips”. This set was also produced as an anonymous issue without the advert. The cards are size 68 x 36mm.

Amalgamated Tobacco Military & Armed Forces British Uniforms of the 19th Century 1957 British Uniforms of the 19th Century 1957 25 - Whilst the 19th century saw great industrial and scientific innovations it is best remembered for the growth of the British Empire and by the end of this century Queen Victoria ruled over a vast area on which the sun never set. All this was only possible however due to her army who in the early years were taking on and subsequently defeating the French army under Napoleon and by the end were engaged in various conflicts in South Africa. This set pictures some of the uniforms worn by regiments over the century. All are drawn in colour against pastel backgrounds. Sadly there is no background information on the reverse, but the excellent pictures go some way to make up for this. This set was also produced by Direct Tea c1960, United Dairies in 1962, S. Prior in 1965, Horsleys Stores in 1968 and there was an anonymous issue c1965. Cards size 67 x 36mm
