British Stamps 1983
British Stamps 1983 EL36 - This is an unusual set which pictures actual British stamps from the 1970s and 80s plus the world’s first stamp the Penny Black & the Twopenny Blue. Each are given a brief description on the front and on the back there are crime prevention tips such as “Never accept money or sweets from a stranger” or “Do not play with matches. Fire is dangerous to life and limb”. As well as giving tips these cards were designed to build relationships between police officers and children and were originally obtained direct from officers and there was a space to write in saying which officer had supplied the card. No. 36 explains that having collected the cards it was hoped that “it has given you a better understanding of what policemen do for yourself and others.” Included are sporting stamps such as the 17½p cricket issue, 1980 Amateur Boxing Association stamp and 13½p Welsh rugby issue as well as stamps on insects, the Post Office anniversary, British youth organisations and International Year of the Child stamps featuring Alice in Wonderland, Winnie the Pooh, Wind in the Willows and Peter Rabbit. These interesting cards are size 102 x 63mm. This set was also issued by Fife Police
