Dart (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Fern Gully The Last Rainforest 1992 Fern Gully The Last Rainforest 1992 LT100 - Although card number one laments the depletion of forest resources claiming “you can make a difference”, that’s pretty well the end of the conservation stuff – the rest is a fantasy world inhabited by cartoon forest fairies led by Crysta who, predictably, has “magic powers of nature to heal the rainforest.” The nine main characters feature as colouring cards at the end of the sequence. Size 89 x 64mm.

It all started in Oxford in the early seventies when Atkinson, who was studying electrical engineering met screenwriter Richard Curtis with whom he wrote and performed comic revues at the Oxford Playhouse, and the partnership when from strength to strength. Dart (USA) Miscellaneous Trade Cards Pepsi Cola 2nd Series 1995 Pepsi Cola 2nd Series 1995 LT100 - This company must really like this fizzy drink as this is the second set to feature the product and their adverts down the years and around the world. Also included are coupons, tokens and a copy of a poster for Pepsi Fest which apparently is held every march in Indianapolis by the Pepsi-Cola Collectors Club. As well as adverts from different countries this set also includes other products produced by the company such as Mountain Dew, a chocolate drink called Devil Shake and Teem lemon and lime drink. One of their most popular and long-lasting advertising campaigns is the Pepsi Challenge when they organise a blind taste test originally pitting them against arch-rivals Coca Cola, but in more recent years against unspecified colas. Favourite cards from this set include a1938 picture of the company’s bottling plant in Long Island, the superb train advert for Evervess which was introduced in 1946 but is not longer made and the advert by Lawson Wood produced on the back of a wooden fan. Regular card collectors will know that Lawson Wood’s artwork was also used by Carreras in their set Gran-Pop in 1934. The numbered backs give information on the company, their history and products and the last card is a checklist. An interesting and informative set with cards size 90 x 64mm.

Dart (USA) Miscellaneous Trade Cards Pepsi Around the Globe 2000 Pepsi Around the Globe 2000 LT72 - The cards show how the product is promoted around the world including Argentina, Australia, India, Russia and Japan. The fronts also contain a small flag from the relevant country whilst the backs give interesting information. For example the card for Cambodia explains that the drink was first introduced at a trade exhibit, we are told the 1940’s Dominican Republic paper label (card no. 11) is now much sought after by collectors and that in Mexico in 1965 the world’s largest sign was erected spelling out the name Pepsi. Apparently the Ethiopian advert showed a lion drinking the beverage, whilst in Egypt it was thirsty camel drivers. Also worth a mention is the Italian card showing Pepsi being delivered by gondola. Dart (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary Classic Memories Sub Set 2001 I Love Lucy 50th Anniversary Classic Memories Sub Set 2001 LT6 - The classic American TV comedy show I Love Lucy first aired in 1951 and in 2001 Dart issued a series of sets celebrating its 50th anniversary. This set showing favourite clips. These are shown against a foil background which I am not sure adds anything to the picture. All feature Lucy (Lucille Ball) as she gets herself into various scrapes including the chocolate factory scene where the chocolates on the conveyor come so fast that Lucy and friend Ethel can’t wrap them in time so end up stuffing their clothing and mouths. Also featured is Lucy doing a vitamin ad when she gradually gets drunk as the product contains alcohol, the episode where Lucy has trouble with an overlarge loaf, Lucy as Superman and in a cigar factory in Havana and Lucy pressing grapes in Italy. That last episode was one of the most popular and also appeared in the background in the Pretty Woman film. Text appears in a pink heart on the back telling the story behind the scene. Size 89 x 64mm
