Paramint Cards Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Gracie Fields From Rochdale to Capri 2012 Gracie Fields From Rochdale to Capri 2012 10 - As you’d guess from the title of this set, “Our Gracie” was a Lancashire lass, from above a fish and chip shop , making her home-town professional debut at the Rochdale Hippodrome at the age of 12. By the late 1920s her working class style of delivery in both song and banter made her one of the highest paid entertainers in Britain, making the first of ten Royal Variety appearances, making hit records such as “Sally” and hugely popular films. She continued performing until just before her death in 1979. The full story is on the backs of these photo cards. Size 68 x 36mm.

Numerous starring roles on the stage and in film followed and later she became synonymous as Miss Marple in films of Agatha Christie’s novels. She died in 1972. Size 68 x 36mm.

With his flat cap, a suit two sizes too small, and a tear-jerking theme song “Don’t laugh at me, cause I’m a fool”, Norman was hugely popular with cinema and television audiences from the 1950s onwards, and made several Royal Variety performances. Perhaps strangely he was idolised in Albania! His extraordinary rise to fame is described on the back of these cards, the fronts of which are black and white photos of Norman in a variety of familiar poses. Size 68 x 36mm.
