Generals of American Civil War 1888 (reprint 1995)
Duke (USA) Military - General Series Generals of American Civil War 1888 (reprint 1995) Generals of American Civil War 1888 (reprint 1995) 30 - This is a reprint of a set originally issued in 1888 just 23 years after the brutal civil war which engulfed America had ended and it focuses on generals from both sides. They are portrayed in full colour in a set of head and shoulders drawings, but it is the backs that stand out as they are full for information not just about their battles but also their character and in some cases what they did after the war. All the big names are here like Ulysses S. Grant, W.T. Sherman, Robert E. Lee and Thomas ‘Stonewall’ Jackson but we were interest to learn more about others such as the fact that Gen. Nathan Forrest was apparently really bad at spelling and grammar despite his achievements and rank or that General John Bankhead Magruder served with Maximillian in Mexico after the war before returning to reside in Houston. These cards offer you a glimpse into a turbulent period in American history. The cards are size 68 x 36mm.
