Wills Flowers and the Garden Garden Flowers New Varieties 2nd Series 1939 Garden Flowers New Varieties 2nd Series 1939 L40 - Popular 1930s garden writer Richard Sudell was a Fellow of the Royal Horticultural Society and was commission by Wills to select and describe new varieties of garden flowers for a series of cards. This is the second in the series and was issued in June 1939. We have to say he picked some good’uns, which are beautifully illustrated on the front, and include Begonia (Fire Sea), Cosmea, Dahlia (Killarney), Gazania (Treasure Flower), Iris (Golden Hind), Lupin (Attraction), Nsturtium (Scarlet Empress), Nolana Lanceolata (Blue Ensign), Rose (Permanent Wave) and Violet (Princess of Wales). The descriptions on the back contain helpful information concerning height and type of plant, what soil it likes and where they are best planted etc. A fantastic set particularly for anyone interested in horticulture. Sainsburys Star Wars Heroes (Disney Pixar Star Wars Marvel) 2019 Heroes (Disney Pixar Star Wars Marvel) 2019 M144 - This excellent set was issued in a collaboration between Sainsburys and Disney Two free packs of cards and an album were originally given away free and then free packs of 4 cards with each order over £10. What is good about these is that the colourful pictures of popular cartoon and film characters are accompanied by messages encouraging healthy eating, getting active and how to be smart, express yourself, work together and do good. For instance Mickey Mouse encourages eating well by trying different foods and the card says he likes cooking for friends, Spiderman suggests you get active to stay flexible, Belle from Beauty & The Beast is on the Be Smart card which tells us she is well-read and never judges a book by its cover, the Dumbo cards tells us “Do Good with your uniqueness” and that he “will be the star of the circus due to his big ears” and Chewbacca and Han Solo team up to make a friend for life. Within the sets there are special effects cards that sparkle, glow in the dark or have a secret picture underneath a rub-away surface. The backs are blank save for the title and contain details of the companies involved. Whether you like cartoon characters or superheroes this is definitely a set worth having. Cards size 82 x 53mm.
