Carreras Set of 54 Film and Stage Beauties 1939

Our choice for September is a set of 54 glamour photos called Film & Stage Beauties produced by Carreras in 1939, some of which are quite racy for the period - even showing a glimpse of stocking tops and some prominent busts - and a fair number are in bathing costumes. Among the beauties flaunting their physical talents are a few Hollywood actresses such as Hedy Lamarr, Anita Louise, Merle Oberon and Sonja Henie with their studio (Paramount, Warner Bros. Or 20th Century Fox noted on the card backs), but most would appear to be stage artistes - and not the theatrical type either, judging by where they could be seen (six of them at the Hollywood Restaurant, five at Rose's Casa Manana, with others at such venues as the Paradise Restaurant and the International Casino). Many bear a credit to Murray Korman. Who he? Photographer, impresario perhaps. The brevity of the text leaves many questions unanswered, so getting this set opens many avenues for follow-up research.
