Lewis & Co. Set of 52 Horoscopes 1938

Our set for October is Lewis’s Horoscopes. Dating from 1938, this is, as far as we know, the only series produced by this Westminster-based company, better known until recent years for its chain of cigarette kiosks at railway stations and other busy locations. There are 52 cards, one for each week, and the fronts have the sign’s Zodiac symbol overlaid on its constellation, plus its lucky number and gemstone. The backs give a horoscope – a character assessment and a forecast for the coming year. For instance for the week September 5th to 11th it predicts“you will succeed especially in a position connected with literature” and that “the coming year should bring you luck in business”. Good news indeed. With only 12 star signs, but 52 horoscope backs, the two sides do not always agree.Originally issued with Lewis Medium Navy Cut Cigarettes, these cards are something different and are great fun.
