Churchman\'s Set of 50 Association Footballers 1st Series 1938
This year's Cup Final day at Wembley is on May 15thand on the following fortnight the new stadium also hosts the Championship League One and League Two play-off finalsso there's much to look forward to if you're a football follower. Those not lucky enough to have a ticket can watch all the action on television, a luxury not even dreamed of back in 1938 when Churchmans issued their first series of Association Footballers, but collectors that year had the advantage of seeing some of the Wembley heroes in these action photos, including George Mutch who scored the winning goal for Preston North End against Huddersfield in the last minute of extra time. Also we can see the likes of Arsenal's Eddie Hapgood and Ted Drake, Stan Cullis of Wolves and Stoke City's brilliant outside-right Stanley Matthews who by then had already gained ten caps weaving his magic for England. What would Capello give to have Stanley on the wing against the U.S.A. in South Africa on June 12th?
Churchman's 50 Association Footballers 1st Series 1938 in very good condition is catalogued at £35.00
