Set of the Month - June 2010
Anstie Set of 40 Places of Interest (varnished front) 1939
The small Wiltshire town of Devizes is, we are sure a very nice place, so it is surprising that our 'Set of the Month' for June does not contain a picture, because it is a series of 40 Places of Interest issued in 1939 by E. & W. Anstie Ltd of Devizes, five years before the firm, founded in 1723, joined the Imperial Tobacco Company. Nonetheless the set does show us a variety of historical gems within easy striking distance of the London Cigarette Card Company's home town of Somerton. With Somerton's annual July Festival coming up (see www.somerton.co.uk), some of you will be visiting this area to join in the fun and you may be tempted to explore the sights around and about using these cards as your guide. The rest of the subjects have a geographical spread from Lands End along the south coast to Dover and venture as far north as Kenilworth in Warwickshire with backs providing some interesting facts.
Anstie 40 Places of Interest (varnished front) 1939 in finest collectible condition is catalogued at £36.00
