Franklyn Davey Set of 50 Children of All Nations 1934
Children these days seem to dress pretty much the same the world over, not so sixty years ago when Franklyn Davey’s Children of All Nations was issued, as you will see, in our set of the month for January. Back then distinctive national costumes were the order of the day, and children had allegedly different characteristics. American boys and girls struck the visitor as being “boisterous, aggressive and self-assertive”, whilst “a Scottish baby is born with the reek of peat in him”. In Connemara, Ireland “Many schoolboys wear petticoats for protection against bad fairies” and in India “the birth of a baby girl is regarded as a calamity. In this unusual series, the outline of each subject has been die-cut on three sides so that the picture can be pushed out if desired.
This set of 50 Children of All Nations 1934 by Franklyn Davey in finest collectable condition is catalogued at £45.00.
