C W S Set of 48 Famous Buildings 1935

Back in the 1930s, the Co-Op issued a number of colour artwork series with their tobacco products Including a set of 48 Famous Buildings, our set of the month for January. The selection of subjects is intriguing. 21 are British, including obvious candidates such as Stonehenge, St. Paul?s Cathedral, the Tower of London, etc, but also the likes of Scotland?s Rosslyn Chapel and Liverpool?s St George?s Hall ? interesting structures, but hardly world-class. What?s ?famous? in one person?s opinion might be completely unknown to another. There?s no dispute that the Taj Mahal, the Colosseum and the leaning Tower of Pisa are definitely in the ?famous? category, but the Castle of Sirmione, the portal of San Zeno and the Telephone Buildings New York are hardly in the same class. Judge for yourself in this well illustrated and informative set.
