Charter Tea Set of 50 Transport Through The Ages c1965

Mention Transport Through The Agesand most collectors would automatically think Brooke Bond. But thereis another entirely different series of the same name - in fact twoseries 1 to 25 and 26 to 50 issued with Charter Tea. As the firstcard states the series depicts "the various modes of transportfrom the earlier days of civilisation to the present day", thatbeing, I would guess, the early 1960s because the final card,"Space Travel", refers to "the launching of manysatellites around our earth, the moon and the sun". As youmight expect the arrangement is more or less chronological, takingus from a litter in Ancient Egypt and a coracle on the Tigris viabeasts of burden, carts, sailing ships and such like, through to20th century transport in the form of modern cars, railway enginesand buses, the "Queen Elizabeth", jet airliners,hovercraft and, of course, space travel. The colour pictures arebacked by very informative texts.
