Beginning with the start of the county season on Easter Saturday followed by the World Twenty 20 in the West Indies at the end of the month, 2010 looks like being an exciting year for cricket enthusiasts, culminating in Australia at Christmas when England attempt to retain the Ashes. England v Australia is traditionally the clash of the Titans, and coverage on cigarette cards has been proportionate to its significance, as witnessed by our Set of the Month, "Australian and English Test Cricketers", a series of forty actual photographs issued by Major Drapkin & Co. in 1928 and featuring some of the outstanding players of the era. The England contingent is a cricketing 'hall of fame' with among others Ames, Chapman, Hammond, Hendren, Hobbs, Jardine, Sutcliffe, Tate, Woolley and that masterful fast bowler Harold Larwood who would later become notorious in the 'bodyline' test which led to riots Down Under. Their many achievements are described on the card backs.
