As the England football team brace themselves for some tough matches on the way to qualifying, we hope, for the 2010 World Cup finals, we turn back the clock more than forty years with a ‘Set of the Month’ which includes many of the legendary players who achieved the “ultimate goal” – winning the World Cup at Wembley on July 30th 1966. Seven of the heroes on the turf that day are pictured below. They are among first Famous Footballers A15 issued by Barratt & Co in 1967, a veritable who’s who in the top ranks of British football, with the likes of Frank McLintock, Terry Venables, Derek Dougan, Bobby Tambling, Denis Law, Peter Bonetti, Billy Bremner and Jimmy Greaves to name but a few.
