JUNE 2009 SET OF THE MONTH
GODFREY PHILLIPS SET OF M36 SHIPS THAT HAVE MADE HISTORY 1938

Writing in Card Collectors News magazine in September 1938, the reviewer C.L. Porter said “Here is one of those issues which one knows immediately to be a certain winner.” He was reviewing Godfrey Phillips series of 36 medium size of Ships That Have Made History, our set of the month for June. Finely produced in colour, it covers the history of sea-going vessels from Egyptian galleys of over 5,000 years ago, through Roman times to the longships of the Vikings. The beginning of the British Navy is celebrated with the Henry Grace a Dieu and we see Nelson’s great flagship the Victory, the clipper Cutty Sark (currently undergoing repairs at Greenwich following a devastating fire in 2006), the Titanic, the world’s largest battle cruiser HMS Hood (sunk by the Bismarck in May 1941 with the loss of all by three of the 1,400 crew) and the magnificent Cunard liner Queen Mary.

This set of M36 Ships That Have Made History 1938 in very good condition is catalogued at £22.00.
