OCTOBER 2008 SET OF THE MONTH
GALLAHER SET OF 48 DOGS 1ST SERIES 1936

From a cute litter of tiny Staffordshire Bull pups to the considerable bulk of a Bull Mastiff, the pictures capture perfectly the individual character of each animal, whilst the backs describe their origin and what makes each breed one of “man’s best friends”. Some interesting facts emerge – the Samoyde “provides the Eskimo with flesh for food and fur for clothing”; the Bulldog, Britain’s national breed, gets its name from its use in bull-baiting; the Clumber Spaniel, favourite breed of George V, is named after Clumber, Nottingham, where it was bred by the Duke of Newcastle; and the Boston Terrier is America’s national breed. Queen Victoria kept Borzois and the Russian Royal Family used them for hunting wolves.

This set of 48 Dogs 1st Series issued by Gallaher in 1936 in finest collectible condition is catalogued at £30.00.
