| No set can sum up better the great
feeling of national pride that will sweep the nation this month than
International Tobacco Co.’s 1934 series of 50 International Code of
Signals, because it begins with a portrait of Nelson followed by nine
cards spelling out our hero’s famous flag signal rallying his men
immediately before the Battle of Trafalgar 200 years ago – “England
Expects That Every Man Will Do His Duty”. One might assume that there
is no place in today’s world for such a system, but the sophisticated
nature of electronic eavesdropping means that virtually every other
method can be intercepted so flags can still have a role to play and
this set continues with some useful nautical examples, humorously
related to land situations on the text backs – for example H.R. means
“There is an obstruction on the fairway”, advice for exercising great
caution in navigating but equally appropriate for golf!
This set of 50 International Code of Signals 1934 by International
Tobacco in very good condition is catalogued at £40.00
