| J.A. Pattreiouex Ltd of Manchester,
the makers of Senior Service Cigarettes, were noted for specialising
in photographic cards during the 1930s, including our set of the
month for June - Sights of Britain 2nd Series. The 'sights' are both
natural and man-made - the likes of Glencoe, Snowdon, Lake
Windermere, Mullion Cove and the Wye Valley on the one hand, and
Chester Cathedral, Eton College, Caernarvon Castle and Edinburgh's
Princes Street on the other. We also see Cutty Sark and HMS Victory.
All fine photos backed by highly informative texts, and, as I'm sure
you will agree, all worthy choices, the kind of subjects you would
expect. But there are also one or two surprises - the Manchester
Ship Canal with factory chimneys smoking in the background,
Southampton's King George graving dock and Croydon aerodrome's main
passenger terminal designed to cope with 'ever-growing air traffic'.
Wells, Glastonbury & Wookey are also pictured. This
set of Pattreiouex M48 Sights of Britain 2nd Series 1936 in very
good condition is catalogued at £12.00.
