With the World Cup behind us and
the new football season now under way we have selected an unusual set
issued back in 1958. Produced by the National Spastics Society as a
fund-raiser, it was described in our magazine at the time as a
most excellent set, a series no collector interested in sport will want
to miss. Some of the colour pictures are action shots, others are
head and shoulder portraits, with comprehensive biographies on the back.
From that vintage period of football history we see Mr Football
Stanley Matthews, Tom Finney, Jackie Milburn, Johnny Haynes, Len
Shackleton (the Clown Prince of Soccer), Brian Clough and
Bert Trautman, the German ex-paratroper who finished the war as a
British P.O.W., became Manchester Citys goalie and played in the
Cup Final against Birmingham with a broken neck. Also in the set are
four of Busbys Babes - centre forward Tommy Taylor,
inside forward Denis Viollet, Captain and left back Roger Byrne and
inspirational left half Duncan Edwards. Of the four, only Denis Viollet
survived Munich, returning to fitness in time to play in the 1957/58 Cup
Final. This fabulous set is offered in finest collectible condition at
£20.00
