Busier lifestyles with people away
from home all day long have led to dogs losing their place as Britains
most popular pets, but there are still seven million of them and they come in
all shapes and sizes, as we can see in a series of 48 photographs issued with
Senior Service cigarettes, our set of the month for March to coincide with the
staging of Crufts at the N.E.C. The black and white pictures are first
class and there is a brief description of each breed on the back. The write-ups
include general hints covering the selection, raising and feeding of pups
(apparently most are partial to a piece of orange and at bedtime leave some
food which the pup does not much care for e.g. a stale crust in case he gets
hungry at 5am), registration (always register a bitch but dont bother
with a dog pup), handling and disease control (disinfect his box with a mixture
of eucalyptus and turpentine). Training hints include never throw a dog
into the water to teach him to swim, say no if he tries
to chase cats, if he tries to go off the pavement jerk him back
sharply and scold him and if your pup starts yapping say
quiet and cuff him. Would Barbara Woodhouse have approved, we
wonder.
This set of 48 cards is well worth adding to your
collection and is available in very good condition at
£25.00.
