| Cinema visits have almost doubled
in the last few years as comfortable multiplexes attract more customers
with a wider choice of entertaining films. Most recently, blockbusters
like Harry Potter, The Lord of the Rings and the latest Star Wars
episode, Attack of the Clones, have raised admissions to levels not seen
for thirty years. But that is nothing compared to the pre-war heyday,
Hollywood's golden age, when legendary stars such as Fred and Ginger,
Bing Crosby, Clark Gable, Greta Garbo, Shirley Temple, Jean Harlow,
Marlene Dietrich, Henry Fonda, Joan Crawford etc. filled the silver
screen. Card collectors are fortunate to be able to re-live those
halcyon days with loads of different film series, but none was better
than that issued by Newcastle cigarette maker John Sinclair in 1937,
their second series of 54 real photos of Film Stars. All the names I
have mentioned feature in this set, some as portraits, others in scenes
from films which remain classics to this day. These pictures will
certainly conjure up more than a few memories, and the text backs are
crammed with interesting information. This fabulous set is offered in
finest collectible condition at £70.00 |
