| Hunting has become an emotional
cause recently. Traditionally hunts are committed to continuing their
time-honoured pastime whilst hunt saboteurs are equally determined to put an
end to their activities. Feelings run high in both camps, and public debate has
raged for and against with parliament uncertain as to the way ahead, especially
as there is something of an us and them attitude polarising opinion
towards the right in favour and the left opposed. Opinions on blood sports and
animal welfare have changed over the years. Back in the 1920s, when our
set of the month, Hunting by Franklyn Davey & Co., was issued, the pictures
would raise hardly an eyebrow, with cards showing Digging out a
Fox, The Kill, Taking the Brush and
Blooding a Youngster leaving little to the imagination. The overall
impression was that such pursuits were part of ordinary life in the shires and
would always be so. Whether or not you approve of hunting, this series of brown
and white photographs backed by detailed texts is one which leaves a lasting
impression. This set is available in Mint Condition at catalogue price of
£25.00 |
