| Cats may now be the most numerous
household pets, but dogs remain owners' favourite four-legged friends. Whether
they be a little boy's mongrel on a piece of string as in the old Bisto adverts
or a haughty champion at Crufts, a dog, to borrow a quote from Roy Rogers is
"honest and faithful right up to the end" - and beyond on the old HMV record
label. As you may have guessed by now, our set of the month for June features
dogs, 54 of them in excellent black and white photographs issued by John
Sinclair in 1938, champions no less, every one pedigree and laden with cups and
medals, as detailed on the card backs which also tell us the origin of the
breed and its main characteristics. And what magnificently aristocratic names
some of them have, starting at No. 1 with "Shah Shuja of Geufron", an Afghan of
considerable distinction, although the Kerry Blue on No. 47 is a more down to
earth "Hell-of-a-Fellow". The set shows a wide diversity of show specimens and
is very well produced. It will be popular among the large number of collectors
interested in the subject. This set is available in FCC-Mint condition at
catalogue price of £40.00. |
