Young of British Birds 2007
Young of British Birds 2007 LT6 - Ken Davison’s brilliant photography has been seen before on Wilson’s four “Nests and Eggs” series. This time his camera has captured some delightful shots of chicks and fledglings in their natural habitat, from a fluffy Mallard to a beaky Merlin and a juvenile Robin too young to be sporting a red breast. Would be better for having some information on the backs. Size 90 x 63mm.

Finches by Butler and Frohawk (1899) 2010
Finches by Butler and Frohawk (1899) 2010 L20 - The colourful illustrations presented on these cards within an ornamental border are reproductions of printings by Butler and Frohawk at the end of the 19th century, with the birds as pairs showing male and female, or closely related variants. Finches are seed-eaters and they are found all over the world in one form or other, but those in this set are examples from the warmer climes of South America, Africa, Asia and Australia, with only one, the Scarlet Rose Finch having bred sporadically in the U.K., as revealed by the up-to-date texts on the backs describing distribution, habitat, etc., plus status such as “evaluated as Least Concern” Size 80 x 61mm.

Hummingbirds by M E Mulsant and J B E Verreaux (1876-77) 2010
Hummingbirds by M E Mulsant and J B E Verreaux (1876-77) 2010 L20 - Gerald Segasby has culled his illustrations from the work of 19th century naturalists which shows these amazing birds whose wings beat so fast they hum as they hover collecting nectar from flowers. All the species pictured are from South or Central America, although the Ruby-throated Hummingbird can nest as far north as Florida. The colour paintings also feature the plants on which the birds rely, and the texts provide some fascinating facts such as the Vervain’s nest being only the size of half a walnut shell. Size 80 x 61mm
