Early Locomotives Series Two 2005 L10 - This selection of early steam engines takes us forward from the mid-nineteenth century with performance constantly improving. The Jenny Lind (1847) was constructed for a number of railway companies at a peak production of one per week, whilst Gooch’s 8-footer was built to demonstrate Brunnel’s Great Western Railway was superior to the standard 4’8” guage. Twopenny Tube Edwardian Sketches of The Central London Railway 2010 L10 - The Central London Railway was the first part of what is now London Underground’s Central Line. Opened in 1900, it ran from Shepherds Bush to Bank after more than four years of construction work – mainly under existing roads to limit compensation to property owners. In this series there is a colour Edwardian sketch of the platform scene at each of the ten stations – Shepherds Bush, Holland Park, Notting Hill Gate, Queens Road (now Queensway), Marble Arch, Oxford Circus, British Museum (replaced by Holborn), Chancery Lane, Post Office (now St Pauls) and Bank. Whilst the backs give comprehensive facts and interesting snipits of information like the “Silver Jubilee” conveyed the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester on their honeymoon, while the “Windsor Castle” was used to pull the funeral train of King George V. Well over half the cards show foreign locomotives from France to Brazil and Nigeria to Turkey including the sleek diesel-electric “Burlington Zephyr” from the United States.
