Here, we learn John Wayne acquired the nickname ”Duke” when as a child he was inseparable from the family’s huge Airedale “Little Duke”. After a summer job in a studio prop room he began getting small parts in low-budget Westerns, but his career really took off when he featured in John Ford’s “Stagecoach” in 1939. One starring role followed another through the 1940s, ‘50s and ‘60s, culminating with a Best Actor Oscar for “True Grit”. In the 1960s she concentrated on stage and TV appearances including 'The Judy Garland Show' in which her daughters from her first marriage, Lorna and Liza Minnelli, regularly appeared.
