George Formby 50th Anniversary Issue 2011
Issuer: Neill Condition: Mint * These are original and NOT reprints Description: These black and white head and shoulders artist's portraits of George Formby invariably sporting a toothy smile, pay tribute to one of Britain's most popular entertainers of the 20th century, marking the 50th anniversary of his death on 6th March 1961. The backs tell the remarkable story of the Lancastrian who rose to fame as a banjo/ukelele playing comedian, star of stage, radio, cinema and television, who brought joy to audiences over a period of almost four decades, including a stint with ENSA entertaining front-line troops at Monty's request in World War II. Numerous hit recordings and popular films made him the highest-earning British artiste, but his life was cut short by a fatal heart attack at the age of 56. However, as these cards say, "Thanks to CDs and DVDs, George's brand of cheeky humour lives on for fans young and old alike." Size 68 x 36mm. Number of cards in set: 10
Price for complete set: Only £5.50
