The backs also include a mini version of the front picture with the date this appeared. The drink was apparently sold for the first time in May 1886 and the earliest artwork shown is of a sign dating from 1899 but the collection also includes foreign adverts and a neon sign from 1977. Wills Reprinted Series Gems of Belgian Architecture 1915 (C.C.S. reprint 2001) Gems of Belgian Architecture 1915 (C.C.S. reprint 2001) 50 - These really are gems containing detailed drawings of lovely old buildings in Belgium, but sadly by the time these were issued Belgium was at war with Germany and over the course of the First World War many of these buildings were to be destroyed. This is particularly true of Ypres where the magnificent Cloth Hall and Belfry shown on card no. 4 was reduced to little more than rubble. The card backs tell us the history of the buildings and also comment on the war. We are told, for instance, that Dixmude was destroyed in fierce fighting between Belgian and Germany troops and the card picturing the Law Courts at Liege contains the poignant words “it is to be hoped that this beautiful and dignified monument has been spared by the Germans”. There are lovely views of Ghent, Brussels, Antwerp, Ostend etc. and this delightful reprint set is well worth adding to any collection. The numbered backs give interesting facts about the region. Size 68 x 36mm.

Topps (USA) Films, TV, Sci Fi & Comic Art Superman III The Film Stickers 1983 Superman III The Film Stickers 1983 LT22 - These are stickers based on the Superman III film. The characters and action shots are in a blue border on a red and white background and the backs make up into two different pictures from the film, one in a red border and one in blue. The 1983 film based on the D.C. Comics character again starred Christopher Reeve as the man-in-tights, alongside big names such as Richard Prior and Robert Vaughn. This time the love interest is not Lois Lane but Lana Lang a childhood friend who Clark meets at a school reunion. As always there is a master villain bent on world domination, but the difference here is that the baddies manage to infect Superman with kryptonite causing him to become unstable. He is also seduced by Lorelei Ambrosia (played by Pamela Stephenson) into causing an oil spill. The story ends with Superman splitting into two halves both good and bad who fight it out. When the good side kills the bad, Superman is put right and corrects the wrongs he has done and puts the baddies out of action. Size 89 x 64mm.
