Clan Tartans 2nd Series 1927 25 - The wide variety of tartans illustrated in colour each surrounds a portrait of a prominent member from the clan’s history, all described on the card backs. So, as you would expect, the Bruce clan is represented by King Robert the Bruce and the MacDonald’s by Flora MacDonald. For Douglas, we have James Douglas, Regent of Scotland, beheaded in 1581; for Fletcher there is Andrew Fletcher, Scottish patriot charged with treason in 1688; Hamilton is represented by the Duke of Hamilton who led a Scottish army into England in 1648 and was executed the following year and William Wallace “the Hero of Scotland” for defeating the English, was captured and executed in 1305.
